Nuakhai to be celebrated on Sept 14; know details

Sambalpur: Western Odisha’s major festival Nuakhai will be celebrated on September 14. This was announced after the Brahmapura temple pandit mandali finalized the lagna for the Nuakhai festival this evening.

As per the schedule, goddess Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur, will be offered the Nabanna (new rice) between 8.10 am and 8.40 am on September 14. Later, the devotes will celebrate the festival with family members, relatives and friends with offering delicious dishes and food items.

Notably, the lagna for Nuakhai is decided on the next day of Janmashtami every year.

The Nuakhai festival is celebrated in a great fervor in western Odisha districts of Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Boudh. The festival is celebrated to welcome the new paddy crop.
