NTCA forms two-member team to probe Odisha leopard death

Bhubaneswar: Taking the recent leopard death in Odisha’s Khajuria village with a serious note, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has formed a two-member committee to probe it on Thursday.

The committee has been told to visit Odisha to prepare a report on the incident to submit it to NTCA within 10 days.

Informing on the step to media today NTCA Chairperson Anup Nayak said the team will visit the Debrigarh Wildlife Sancturay shortly.

The feline’s carcass was found on October 29 lying inside a pit. While, the carcass was first thought to be that of a tiger, autopsy revealed later that it was a leopard of around 2 to 3 weeks old.

Bargarh DFO suspended two officials of the Forest Department namely Kamgaon Forester Parshuram Behera and Hajuripada Forest Guard Prabhashini Mahananda in connection with the case latter.

Notably, the NTCA had sought a detailed report from Odisha Forest and Environment Department on the circumstances under which the big cat died and the progress of investigation into it.
