NSG team PuriPuri: A three-member team from National Security Guard (NSG) from its Regional Hub at Hyderabad visited Puri Sri Jagannath Temple and reviewed the security arrangements inside the 12th century shrine on Saturday.

The visit came two days ahead of the team’s scheduled ‘reconnaissance’ of the temple on August 28 and 29 in consultation with the   Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Odisha Police as well as intelligence agencies.

During its visit this morning, the NSG team took stock of the security arrangements in the inner and outer sanctorum of the temple from various angles. The team took a close look at the CCTV cameras at the four entrances and along the compound wall, known as ‘Meghanad Pacheri’, and watch towers inside the temple.

The officials of the elite anti-terrorist squad also held a discussion with security officials on duty at the Srimandir as well as Puri Additional SP Banabihari Sahu on the scanning of all devotees and entrants into the shrine with metal detectors.

Notably, in its letter to the Puri Collector Aravind Agrawal with copies to SP Sarthak Sarangi along with Odisha Police IG (Operation) RP Koche on August 20, the NSG authorities had conveyed the schedule for the visit of its three to four member team to Srimandir and had also sought the assistance of a liaison officer during the security review inside the temple.
