Notorious criminal Raka injured in encounter in Cuttack

Cuttack: A notorious criminal sustained critical bullet injuries during a fierce gun encounter with police at Athanga village under Kandarpur Tehsil in Cuttack early this morning. The hardened criminal has been identified as Rakesh Das aka Raka of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district.

According to reports, Police Commissionerate had initiated a manhunt to apprehend Raka after several criminal cases were filed against him. Based on a reliable information, a team led by IIC Kandarpur PS conducted raid at Paramahansa-Athanga Naibandha Road near 42 Mouza, Kathajodi Bridge while he was coming from Cuttack towards Jagatsinghpur by riding a Apache bike.

He was sufficiently warnded to surrender but he again fired towards raiding party constraining Police to open two rounds of fire in exercise of rights to private defence, added reports.

Raka fired bullets at two police officers while trying to escape from the spot following which the IIC of Kandarpur police station fired back two bullets at him, added reports. Raka has sustained injuries on his right thighs during this encounter. The two police officers have also sustained critical injuries during the exchange of bullets.

Thereafter, Police Commissionerate rushed Raka to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack along with the two injured police officers for immediate medical treatment. Raka has been admitted to the hospital under strict police security.

The cops have seized one gun three live bullets, one apache bike bearing registration number OD-21-M 6493 from Raka’s possession.

It is pertinent to mention that, Raka was the main accused in the firing case at Kandarpur on September 9. There are more than 10 criminal cases filed against Raka at various police stations in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.
