Notorious criminal Krishna injured in police encounter in Balangir

Balangir: Continuing its crackdown on history-sheeters in the district Balangir Police on Sunday arrested dreaded criminal Krishna Kata following an encounter at Tusura Chhak, in which he also sustained bullet injury.

As per the report, a team of cops conducted a raid near Tusura Chhak and tried to intercept Krishna acting upon a tip-off on his whereabouts last night. However, the accused opened fire at police in a bid to escape from the spot and sustained a bullet injury on his left leg in return fire.

After arrest the criminal was rushed to Saintala Hospital for treatment and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla due to deteriorating condition.

Police informed, the held criminal happens to be the prime accused in the Gandatarapalli square loot case of January 20, in which a group of miscreants had snatched away Rs 3.06 lakh from a liquor shop manager after opening fire at him. He had also looted Rs 19 lakh from Andhra Bank Deogaon branch in another incident, a few months back, they added.
