Kendrapara : A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter on Kajala-Nankar road under Kendrapara Sadar police limits in the district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The criminal has been identified as Ganesh Mallick alias Jhul of Nankar village. He sustained bullet injuries in his right leg in the encounter. He was first admitted to Kendrapara hospital and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Sources said, Mallick was hiding in Nankar village. On being tipped off, a combine team of Sadar Police and special squad swung into action and rushed to the spot. Seeing the cop, Mallick opened fire at them. In retaliation, the police too fired and Mallick was hit in his leg.
A bike, a pistol, live cartridges, and a mobile phone have been seized from his possession. Police seized.
Mallick was wanted in several cases of loot, attempt to murder and other criminal cases.
