Notification issued for Bijepur bypoll in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The gazette notification for the bypoll to Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha was issued by the concerned Returning Officer on Monday.
The polling for the by-election will be held on October 21. While the last date for filing of nomination is scheduled on September 30, the nominations will be scrutinized on October 1.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 3. Counting of votes and declaration of result will be held on October 24.
The Bijepur bypoll was necessitated after BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik resigned from the seat. Patnaik had contested and won from Hinjili and Bijepur.
While the Chief Minister retained Hinjili seat from where he has been winning from 2000 in a row, he resigned from Bijepur, the seat he contested for the first time.
Meanwhile, the mainstream political parties -BJD, BJP and Congress -are geared up for the bypoll.
As many as 2,32,005 voters (1,19,916 male, 1,12,074 female and 15 third gender) are eligible to cast their votes at 285 polling booths during the bypoll.
