Noted Odia filmmaker Amiya Patnaik passes away

Bhubaneswar: Leaving a vacuum behind renowned Odia filmmaker Amiya Ranjan Patnaik passed away today at a private hospital in New Delhi following a brief illness.

Patnaik who had given a number of hit Odia movies during his career of over three decades had made his successful directorial debut with the film ‘Mamata Mage Mula’ in 1985. The movie had also been produced by him.

Later, he went on producing box office successes like ‘Hakim Babu’ (1985), ‘Raja Rani’ (1989), Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi (1989), Asuchi Mo Kalia Suna (1989), ‘Paradeshi Babu’ (1999) and Babu I Love You’ (2005). ‘Hakim Babu’ brought Patnaik more glory after winning National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Odia in that year.

After a small break, Patnaik again returned as the director with ‘Tulasi Apa’ in 2015. Based on Padma Shri awardee Tulasi Munda, the movie received a number of awards last year.

Members from film fraternity, fans, followers and well-wishers have expressed their grief on the demise of Patnaik and prayed for the heavenly abode for the departed soul.
