Noted CPM leader Shivaji Patnaik passes away

Bhubaneswar: Veteran CPM leader and former Bhubaneswar MP Shivaji Patnaik passed away this afternoon. He was 92.

Shivaji Patnaik was under treatment for the last 15 months due to old age-related sicknesses. He was admitted at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar two days ago after he complained of chest ache. Unfortunately, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Shivaji’s three sons were present at the hospital when he passed away this afternoon. They took his body to their Jagamara-based house following his death.

The last rites of the deceased veteran politician will be performed tomorrow.

Shivaji was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhubaneswar in 1977, 1989, and 1991. He has played a vital role in the formation of the Odisha wing of the CPM party. Besides, he used to lead the agitations of the farmers and daily workers in the State.

Politicians cutting across the party line, expressed their condolences over the death of the veteran CPM leader. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief on the demise of the senior politician and expressed his solace to the bereaved family members.

Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also condoled the death of Shivaji Patnaik.
