Lucknow:  Attending the ground breaking ceremony for 81 projects worth over Rs. 60, 000 crore across Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied allegations of being close to corrupt and controversial industrialists and asserted that he is not afraid of being seen with them in public as his intentions and conscience have always been clean.

The Prime Minister indirectly targeted the opposition and said that he is not one of those who maintain friendships with corrupt people covertly but feign ignorance in public.

He further stated that he does not fear standing with industrialists as they are crucial for the economic development and prosperity of the country and that it was indeed a disgrace to heap insults on them or call them thieves and robbers.

To validate his assertion, the Prime Minister cited that example of Mahatma Gandhi and said that despite being a simple man, Gandhiji had good relations with the Birlas, who were the leading industrialists of that time.

The Prime Minister also took a dig at the Congress by saying that his government is taking adequate measures to punish dishonest industrialists unlike the previous government which was protecting the wrong-doers.

Narendra Modi further praised UP CM Yogi Adityanath and appreciated his efforts in promoting development, progress and industrialisation in Uttar Pradesh, which is fast emerging as a desirable location for industries and MNCs.

The function was also attended by industrialists like Gautam Adani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sanjeev Puri and Subhash Chandra.
