Nor’wester Rains Wreak Havoc, Trees & Electric Poles Uprooted

Bhubaneswar: Norwester rains wreaked havoc in several parts of Odisha last evening, uprooting trees and electric poles at various places.

Thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph were experienced in districts of north Odisha as well as Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Khordha and Puri.

Hailstorm and heavy rains lashed various blocks of Kandhamal district where trees were uprooted and dwelling houses destroyed due to gusty winds. Many of the thatched huts in the area were also destroyed.

Power supply remained disrupted for hours due to the uprooting of electric poles at various places.

Due to heavy rain maximum temperatures dropped significantly over south interior Odisha and also over the rest of the state.
