No evidence on community transmission of Omicron Covid variant: Odisha Health Director

Bhubaneswar: The Omicron variant of the coronavirus has not spread in the community in Odisha due to lack of sufficient sample size, informed Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra on Saturday.

Reportedly there is no factual evidence yet that will indicate community transmission of Omicron variant of Covid in the State.

“There is a spike in Coronavirus infections in the state. People suffering from minor cold and cough should also get tested,” added Health Director.

He further said that there was no reason to worry regarding the spread of the Omicron variant as the state was fully prepared.

It is to be noted that although the Covid vaccination will protect people from the virus, there is still the need to follow Covid-appropriate behavior to prevent further spread.

The cases of the Omicron variant are on the rise in other states, along with Maharashtra. However, Odisha has a less positivity rate as compared to other States.

Meanwhile, over 45,000 children aged between 15-18 years have already registered names on the CoWin portal to take vaccines in Odisha, informed Public Health Director Bijay Panigrahi.
