No ‘Chinese manjha’ for kite flying in Cuttack

Cuttack: The district administration has imposed complete ban on sale and use of plastic string, popularly known as ‘Chinese Manjha’, for kite flying in the city during the Makar Sankranti celebration this year.

Cuttack collector Sushant Mohapatra said, kite flying would be permissible only with a cotton thread, free from any sharp, metallic, glass components, adhesives and thread strengthening materials.

Mohapatra also added that kite flying would not be allowed from rooftops, roads and places of public gathering in the city, saying people can fly their kites at designated places only.

As many as ten places including Bali Jatra ground, Bidanasi Ground, Sunshine Ground, OMP Ground, Kathajodi riverbed, Khannagar Park, Potapokhari Ground, the ground adjacent to the Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, CDA Biju Patnaik Chhak Ground and Naraj Helipad Ground have been identified for Kite flying during the festival.

Meanwhile, the district officials have seized ‘Chinese Manjha’ from various shops in the city.
