Niranjan Patnaik clears air on ‘One Man, One Post’ formula

Bhubaneswar: After some senior Congress leaders of the State showed displeasure about the ‘one man, one post’ formula, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik on Tuesday said that the media has misinterpreted his statement.

“The ‘one man one post’ issue has been misinterpreted by the media. A candidate who has better chance of winning will be given tickets during the upcoming general elections. Besides, the party will prefer the youth, women and new faces while distributing the party tickets,” Patnaik said media persons.

“We have three PCC working Presidents. They will definitely contest the election. I am the PCC President and I will also contest the election,” he confirmed.

Patnaik had earlier advocated for the ‘one man one post’ formula that invited criticism from some senior party leaders.

On Monday, senior Congress leader and Khurda District Congress committee (DCC) President Suresh Kumar Routray had voiced his displeasure about the new formula and stated his interest to contest the next polls from Jatni Assembly segment.

Another Congress veteran and party’s working committee president Bhakta Charan Das also disapproved the formula and said that all office bearers can contest the polls and winnability will be the primary yardstick to get party tickets.
