Cuttack: The Cuttack district administration, which is still clueless about the mysterious animal that has been killing sheep in Nilai area for the last two months, formed a special team to trace the animal, on Tuesday.
The special team namely Village Defense Force was formed to keep a close vigil on the animal. Besides, CCTVs will be installed at different locations after identifying the points, officials said.
This was decided at a co-ordination meeting held at Niali. Sub-Collectors of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Niali BDO, CDPO, Forest Ranger Officer and Niali IIC attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to make the people aware through loud speakers and urge them not to worry about the matter.
“All steps have been taken to catch the mysterious animal. There is nothing to worry about it. Some wild animals from the nearby forest attack only sheep. However, our prime focus now is to identify the animal. So, we will verify the footprints found in the area. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed at various locations after identifying them,” said Himanshu Sekhar Mohanty, Range Officer, Phulnakhara.
“Compensation will be provided to the owners of the sheep after proper verification,” added Mohanty.
It was also decided in the meeting that forest officials and members of the Village Defense Force will visit different places and request the people to keep their sheep in a proper enclosure where the wild animals cannot enter.
The mysterious animal has killed more than 150 sheep in the area in the last two months.
