NHRC seeks ATR from Odisha Govt on Apollo Hospital matter

Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought Action Taken Report (ATR) from Odisha Government u/s 16 of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act, 1994 with regard to suspension/cancellation of registration of the Apollo Hospital Bhubneswar, Odisha within 6 weeks positively failing which the Commission shall be constrained to issue coercive process u/s 13 of the PHR Act, 1993.

The fresh order asked Odisha government to take appropriate steps in this matter. The notification said, “The matter relates to illegal kidney transplantation of victim by his neighbours in connivance with DMET and Apollo Hospital at Bhubaneshwar Odisha.”

Through the notification, the NHRC directed the Chief Secretary of Odisha to pay Rs. 2, 00,000 to the victim Anil Kumar Swamy and submit proof of payment within 6 weeks.

NHRC has directed the Odisha government to take action against the hospital and to submit a report.

It had been alleged that the private hospital had taken out the kidney of one Anil Kumar Swamy representing him as Jairam Dora.
