NHAI patrolling van rams into stationary truck; 1 dead, 2 critical

Cuttack: An employee of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was killed and two others sustained critical injuries after the patrolling van they were boarding rammed into a stationary truck at Manguli Chhak on NH-16 here today.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Swain.

As per the report, Swain along with two other staffs of NHAI were returning after a patrolling duty in Nirgundi area in the wee hours, when the mishap took place. It is suspected that, the driver of the patrolling van the trio were travelling in failed to spot a lorry truck parked on the highway due to fog and ended up smacking into it from behind.

The impact of collision was so serious that the van got completely damaged from the front killing Swain on the spot and leaving the rest critical.

Tangi Police reached the spot and rushed the injured to SCB Medical in Cuttack after seizing the mangled van and the body of the deceased later.
