Bhadrak: A newly married couple committed suicide by consuming poison due to a family feud in Shyampur village under Dhamnagar Police Station area in the district last night.
The deceased couple has been identified as Satyaranjan Tripathy and his wife Purnima Das.
The couple turned critical after consuming poison late in the night and were rushed to Dhamnagar Hospital in critical condition by family. However, they died under treatment after being shifted to Bhadrak DHH in due to critical condition later in the night.
While the exact cause of the couple’s suicide is yet to be ascertained it is suspected that, a verbal duel erupted between Tripathy and his wife over insurance claim settlement of a bike which had suffered an accident recently and later led to the incident.
Tripathy had visited his in-laws’ house located in Athagarh area of Cuttack around two days ago where he had met with an accident which left him injured and damaged his bike. He had gone to settle the insurance claim for the bike yesterday and took the extreme step after returning home, said his father.
Police have started investigation into the case after sending the body for autopsy.
