Newly-married woman dies after consuming poison in Balasore

Balasore: A newly married woman has lost her life after consuming poison in Balasore district of Odisha. The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Patra, daughter of Trilokya Patra of Bangara village under Sadar police limits. Reportedly, Gayatri was married to Pratyush Mohanty, son of Premananda Mohanty of Santaragadia area under Nilgiri police limits.

Gayatri’s in-law family has been allegedly torturing her mentally as well as physically since the first day of her marriage. She had never informed about it to her family, added reports.

Later when Gayatri was unable to bear the pain, she decided to end her life and took the major step of consuming poison.

Thereafter, her in-laws rushed her to Nilagiri Government Hospital for immediate medical treatment and later shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. However, she was brought back to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, Balasore as her health condition deteriorated and the doctors pronounced her brought dead.

Based on the allegations , Nilagiri police has arrested Gayatri’s husband Pratyush and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, a relative of Gayatri has alleged that she had to terminate her child while she was three months pregnant due to her in-laws. “They were not giving her proper meals nor they were allowing Gayatri to contact with us,” also said the relative. She has further alleged that Gayatri’s in-laws did not inform about the suicide attempt immediately to her parents.

Similarly another relative of Gayatri has said that no initiative was taken by the police after their repeated attempts to lodge a complaint against her in-laws. “Neither we could lodge a complaint against them nor we could save our child,” also said the relative.
