New-born baby boy found abandoned on roadside

Berhampur: A new-born boy was found abandoned on roadside near Gobara village under Gangpur police limits in Ganjam district on Thursday.

One local woman namely Reena Mohapatra first spotted the baby dumped beside the main road in the village this morning and rescued him. Later she rushed the baby to Gobara Community Health Centre (CHC) with the help of some villagers where doctors conducted his preliminary check-up.

“We received the new-born boy at around 8.30 AM today. During preliminary check-up the placenta of the baby was found intact and we removed it. The baby is healthy and has been referred to Bhanjanagar Hospital for further treatment,” said Santosh Kumar Patra, Pharmacist, Gobara CHC.

Meanwhile, the woman who rescued the baby has expressed her interest to adopt the baby.

“As I am childless and could not conceive due to medical issues, I want to adopt the baby,” said Reena.
