Jeypore: In an unfortunate incident, an Anganwadi worker was brutally murdered by her neighbour in Kotpad area of Odisha’s Koraput district last night.
Anganwadi worker Basanti Soura was living with her mother-in-law and 5-year-old child while her husband is in Kerala to work as a daily wager. He has gone there two months ago.
Taking the advantage of the absence of Basanti’s husband in the house, her neighbour Santosh Sarabu jumped into the premises of the house at around 10 PM yesterday and hid himself. He brutally attacked Basanti with a knife when she came out of the house to attend the nature’s call. The accused soon fled the scene after committing the crime.
The critically injured Basanti was rushed to the Kotpad Community Health Centre by the villagers for treatment. However, the doctor declared her brought dead.
It is pertinent to note here that Basanti and her family members had filed a police complaint against Santosh six months ago for reportedly sending obscene messages to her. He was in the custody for two days. Later, he was released after he wrote her an apology letter.
Meanwhile, the local police has started an investigation into the matter with the help of a scientific team.
