Nayagarh conjoined twins Ganga-Jamuna pass away

Cuttack: In a shocking development, the conjoined twins of Sarankul in Nayagarh district Ganga-Jamuma passed away on Wednesday.

Informing on the death, father of the twin girls who were joined at stomach and chest said the duo breathed their last at around 12.30 AM. He said the death occurred after their heart stopped functioning.

Expressing his grief over the death of the twins State Health Minister Pratap Jena said doctors tried their level best to save the lives of both the child. He cited the congenital abnormalities of the common heart shared by the twins as the chief cause of death.

Notably, Ganga-Jamuna were shifted to Cuttack Sishu Bhawan after their birth at a private hospital in Nayagarh on December 1. Born to Kishore Kumar Dutta and Sumitra Dutta of Pancharidamanapur under Sarankul police limits of the district the twins were having a common heart and liver. Odisha Government had assured the couple to bear all medical expenses of the twins’ treatment. It also announced that if necessity arises, the babies will be provided treatment in hospitals located outside the state.
