Naveen writes to Prabhu, seeks restoration of Bhubaneswar-Bangkok flight

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday expressing his concern over the recent cancellation of Air India flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok and Bengaluru and demanded immediate restoration of the service.

In his letter Naveen claimed that, the cancellation of direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok would adversely affect the tourism sector in the state, the same would hit IT industry badly in Odisha.

“The abrupt suspension of the existing operations has been a severe jolt to the Aviation and Tourism sectors in the state. Similarly, the withdrawal of the domestic flight between Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar has come as a setback for the IT industry in the state,” the letter reads.

Taking to the notice of Prabhu the fact that Air India made a delay in starting international flight services for Biju Patanaik International Airport (BPIA) the CM wrote, although, Bhubaneswar airport got international tag on October 30, 2010, the Bhubaneswar-Bangkok flight was flagged off only on December 10, 2017.

Thorough his letter the CM has urged upon Prabhu to impress the Air India management to restore these operations forthwith and also explore the possibility to start international operations from Bhubaneswar to other South East Asian countries considering the immense potential in these routes.
