Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will visit Bijepur in Bargarh district to thank the voters. This was informed by Handlooms and Textiles Minister Snehangini Chhuria today.

Chhuria said that the Chief Minister will visit Bijepur on March 12 to thank the voters of the state assembly constituency.

Notably, BJD candidate Rita Sahu had won the much hyped by-poll with a huge margin of over 41,000 votes in the by-election which was necessitated following the demise of her husband and three-time Congress MLA Subal Sahu in August last year.

She got 1,02,871 votes, while her nearest rival Ashok Panigrahi of BJP secured 60,938 votes and Congress’ Pranay Sahu managed to pocket only 10,274 votes.

“Humbled by love and trust of the people of Bijepur for giving BJD a massive victory. BJD lives in the hearts of the people of the state and our people are peace loving and have rejected the politics of hatred and violence,” Naveen had said soon after winning the by-election.

It is worthwhile to mention here that there was an attempt to attack Naveen by hurling shoes during his campaign meeting in Barpali on February 20.
