Naveen, Dharmendra pay homage to freedom fighter Buxi Jagabandhu

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid rich tribute to one of the celebrated freedom fighters from the state Buxi Jagabandhu Bidydhar Mohapatra on his death anniversary today.

Buxi Jagabandhu led Paika Rebellion (Paika Bidroha), an armed rebellion against the British East India Company’s rule in Odisha in 1817. He has been considered as one of the earliest freedom fighters of India.

Patnaik and Pradhan had earlier urged the Union Government to declare Paika Rebellion of 1817 as the First war of Indian Independence.

To commemorate the day, both the leaders took twitter route to honour and remember Buxi Jagabandhu.

The Chief Minister tweeted in Odia to pay his tribute to the revolutionary freedom fighter.

Petroleum Minister tweeted his tribute calling Buxi Jagabandhu a legendary freedom fighter.
