Naveen dedicates 34 Wayside Amenities Centres in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated 34 complete wayside amenities centres to the public on Tuesday.

Patnaik dedicated the amenities centres via video conferencing from state Secretariat in the presence of Odisha Transport & Commerce Minister Nrusingha Sahu, Tourism & Culture Minister Ashok Panda and others.

According to reports, Odisha government has set up 50 such wayside amenities centres now along the National Highways (NHs) and State Highways (SHs) across the state. However, 34 of them have been completed and become functional.

“It’s a pleasure moment that wayside amenities centres are being inaugurated today at 34 places of the State. These amenities centre have the facilities of toilets, safe drinking water and cafeteria. This will cater to needs of our tourists and especially our women during journey hours,” said the Chief Minister while addressing the public on the occasion through video conferencing.

“These facilities will also be provided at our other tourist centres. The wayside amenities centres assume much more significance so far clean environment and quality of journey are concerned. Hope, we would use it properly and the Works Department will take care of the maintenance,” he added.

Works Secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan informed that the wayside amenities centres have been constructed on the vacant government land and old IB (inspection bungalow) premises. However, the Chief Minister has instructed that even private land at some other places would be purchased for the purpose wherever needed.

Pradhan further informed that the state government is also mulling over to make Trauma Care facility and medicine available there keeping in view the road accident incidents. Besides, other facilities like vehicle repairing, WiFi services and playground for the children will also be made available on the premises of wayside amenities centres in future.
