Keonjhar: Two leaders of the newly launched Biju Juba Bahini, the youth brigade of ruling BJD party had a close shave last night after a miscreant tried to open fire at them over political rivalry in Dhenkikote village under Ghatagaon police limits in the district.

The victims have been identified as Biju Juba Bahini Dhenkikot president Dilu Mishra and Secretary Rakesh Mandal.

As per a complaint filed by Dilu at the Ghatagaon Police Station, the attack took place at around 9.30 PM when he was busy in work at his shop in the village. The accused Bibhu Prasad Chakra of neighbouring Khunta village reached his shop and started using foul language at him over his joining of BJD’s youth brigade. As Dilu protested, a heated argument erupted between the duo and got intensified later after Rakesh reached the shop.

“In a fit of rage Bibhu took out a revolver and tried to fire two rounds of bullet targeting us. However, he fled from the spot boarding his Mahindra Bolero after the gun didn’t fire despite pulling the trigger,” said Dilu.

The victim has handed over a CCTV footage available at the shop to police in connection with the incident and has demanded action against the accused.

“The CCTV visual is not clear and we are investigating into the incident. Anybody found guilty in the incident would not be spared,” Satish Chandra Nayak, IIC, Ghatagaon.
