Bhanjanagar: Mysterious animal fear loomed large again in the state last night after at least 10 sheep were found dead in Tamanad village under Jagannath Prasad block in Ganjam district.

The sheep carcasses were found in one local, Neera Nayak’s cattle shed in the village. Neera who has reared cattle in large scale went on an inspection of his shed this morning and found the dead sheep with deep nail indentations on their neck parts pointing at predator attack. Pug marks very similar to that of the mysterious animal were also seen by the side of the carcasses.

Locals called up forest officials and sought their help to tackle the situation following the incident.

Notably, people were left in a state of panic in Ganjam district in August last year also, after seven domestic animals, including four lambs and three sheep fall prey to mysterious animal in Kunchudu village under Buguda block. Earlier in July in the same year, separate hunting by predators in Badapathara and Kupati village left a number of sheep dead.
