Bhubaneswar: Taking a tough stand in the Sambalpur Hospital minor girl rape attempt case, State Health Minister Pratap Jena assured of stringent action against the accused security guard today.

While talking to reporters on the issue, Jena said had he been given liberty to function as a common man, he would have ordered to shoot the accused to death for committing such a heinous crime. However, in the capacity of a health minister he maintained that the accused has been caught and would be meted out with the most stringent punishment possible under the law of the land.

Moreover, in a cautionary note to the security agencies, the minister said that they would be held responsible for any crime their men get involved in.

Meanwhile, the Sambalpur Hospital authorities have cancelled an agreement with the G5S security agency of which the accused was a staff and preparing to call fresh tender.

The victim, a three-year-old girl who visited the hospital along with her pregnant mother and family members on Tuesday was lured by the accused security guard Sujit Rana in the evening to a secluded place. The accused then attempted to rape her over there.

The incident came to fore after the girl narrated the ordeal before her mother.

Sujit was caught by Sambalpur Town Police on Wednesday.
