Music legend Prafulla Kar’s mortal remains consigned to flames with full state honours

Puri: The mortal remains of Odisha Music legend and Padma Shri Prafulla Kar was consigned to flames with full State Honours at Puri Swargadwar today.

At the direction of Chief Minister, Urban and Law Minister Pratap Jena and School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash attended the funeral of Late Prafulla Kar at Puri Swargadwar.

The body of the eminent musician was taken to Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi (OSNA) this morning. Kar took his last breath late on Sunday night at the age of 83 due to a cardiac arrest.

He was an Odia musician, singer, lyricist, writer and columnist. He received Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution in the field of arts.

The maestro was very popular in every Odia household through his songs like ‘Kamala Desha Rajakumara’, ‘Kalia mo dehe boli de to deha kala’, ‘Mo priya tharu kie’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the demise of the legendary singer.

Many political leaders and Ollywood actors paid their last visit to Kar at his residence in Satya Nagar.
