Bhubaneswar: Commuters were left in a state of panic after a moving car caught fire on NH-16 beside Baramunda-Nayapalli flyover near ISKCON temple on Monday.
The incident took place in the afternoon while less number of vehicles were plying on the Highway averting a major mishap. Driver of the burning Tata Indigo vehicle managed to alight it unhurt.
While vehicular movement had been brought to a grinding halt following the mishap, shocked bystanders watched as bright, orange flames and thick, black smoke billowed from the car stopped very close to crowded Nayapalli Big Bazar.
Firefighters raced to the scene and tackled the blaze after a Herculean effort. However till the fire was doused, the vehicle had been gutted completely.
Nayapalli Police said the cause of the fire is not yet known and the matter is under investigation.
