Keonjhar: A woman and her daughter drowned in a pond in Keonjhar district of Odisha. The incident took place at Jamupashi Sahi under Jamugodi panchayat of Harichandanpur block on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Draupadi Naik (60) and her daughter Rinki Naik (6) of the area.
Reportedly, Draupadi went to take bath at the pond with Rinki after she returned from her farming land. The mother-daughter duo drowned inside the pond as their legs slipped while bathing.
Thereafter, Draupadi’s elder daughter went to search for them as they did not return home till late evening and found their bodies floating in the pond following which she shouted the locals for help. The locals fished out Draupadi’s body from the pond but were unable to find Rinki.
On being informed, the local fire fighters immediately arrived at the spot and fished out Rinki’s body from the watery grave.
The Harichandanpur police reached to the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A report of unnatural death has been filed and the cops have initiated a probe into the matter.
