Mortal Remains of Odia Mountaineer Kalpana Dash To Be Retrieved Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The state government today said that they are in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to bring back the body of ace Odia woman mountaineering Kalpana Dash (49) who died during an expedition to Mt Everest on Thursday.

“We have been informed that the team of sherpas have reached camp II around 4 pm on Sunday.  They will commence their rescue operation in the early hours of Monday. The sherpas are expected to reach the location where Dash’s deceased body has been reported to be found. They will recover and bring the mortal remains to camp IV tomorrow,” said an official of the state Sports and Youth Services department

Two family members of Dash along with a representative of the Odisha government will reach Kathmandu on Monday for further coordination and completing the formalities for bringing the body to Bhubaneswar.

Dash, who was having a number of laurels to her name was a part of a three-member women mountaineers’ team which scaled the up to the summit of Mt Everest but she succumbed due to sickness while descending from the peak.
