Mortal remains of Marshal of IAF Arjan Singh consigned to flames

Arjan SinghNew Delhi: The mortal remains of Marshal of Indian Air Force (IAF) Arjan Singh was consigned to flames at the Brar Square here on Monday. With full state honour, he was accorded a 17-gun salute and a fly past before the final rites.

Singh’s mortal remains were taken to the funeral site from his residence in Kautilya Marg in a gun carriage procession. There was a flypast by IAF choppers also.

Marshal Arjan Singh, hero of 1965 India-Pakistan war, was the only Air Force officer to be promoted to five-star rank. He died of a cardiac arrest here on Saturday evening. 98-year old Singh had been admitted to Army’s RR Hospital following a heart attack.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Vankaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the legendary soldier at his residence on Sunday.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, IAF Chief B.S. Dhanoa, Chief of Naval staff Sunil Lanba, Army Chief Bipin Rawat, and  former Deputy PM Lal Krishna Advani, several former Service Chiefs, relatives, and friends were present at the funeral.

The national flag is flying at half-mast at all government buildings in the national capital in honour of the most decorated officer of the IAF.
