More rain to lash Odisha in next 48 hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre here on Tuesday predicted heavy rain in the next 48 hours due to a well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha.

A statement issued by the Met office said, “Yesterday’s low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies as a well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. The system is very likely to concentrate into a depression and move west-northwestwards during next 12 hours.”

Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall / thunderstorms likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Sonepur and Balangir on Wednesday.

The weather officials have advised fishermen not to venture into North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast during the next 24 hours.

Moreover, local cautionary signal No-III kept hoisted at all ports of Odisha.
