Monkeypox Virus: Odisha Govt to intensify surveillance on foreign returnees

Bhubaneswar: Due to the outbreak of the monkeypox virus in at least 30 countries, Odisha Government has decided to intensify surveillance on foreign returnees.

Reportedly, the surveillance will be done especially for those arriving here from the affected countries.

The State decided to keep an eye on the foreign travelers after the Ministry of Health issued guidelines as part of a proactive and risk-based approach for the management of monkeypox and to ensure advanced preparedness across the country.

Adding to it, the Director of Public Health Niranjan Mishra has said that in view of the increasing reports of monkeypox cases in non-endemic countries, travelers, who have returned from foreign countries in the last 21 days will be monitored.

The Health and Family Welfare Department will hold a meeting today with all CDMOs, directors of hospitals, superintendents of medical colleges and health experts.
