Mock polls to create awareness beings in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Mock polls to create awareness among people on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) system began in Odisha from today.

Khurdha collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra flagged off the voter awareness vehicle at Bhubaneswar camp office in the presence of Additional district collectorate Manoj Kumar Behera, BDO, DIPRO and SDPO.

Under the month-long special drive around 30 vehicles (17 vehicles for Bhubaneswar and 13 vehicles for Khurda district) have been deployed in 10 blocks of eight assembly constituencies in Khurda district.

The awareness programme, which is aimed at creating awareness among the citizens about the use of the EVMs and VVPATs in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state, will be carried from 8.30 am to 5 pm in each village till February 10.

According to reports, two members have been deployed in each vehicle. As many as 17 vehicles have been allocated for Bhubaneswar while 13 vehicles allocated for Khurda district.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the VVPAT machines will be used for the first time in all the 147 assembly segments in Odisha in the forthcoming elections.
