Mochisahi Mahodadhi Market Complex bulldozed in Puri today

Puri: Moving ahead with its drive to clear unsafe and unauthorised structure from the vicinity of Puri Srijagannath temple, the administration today evicted the Mahodadhi market complex located in Mochisahi area.

The 50-year-old market complex which was housing 58 shops and a cooperative society was razed in the presence and supervision of Puri Sub Collector Bhabatran Sahu and Municipal Executive officer Bijay Kumar Das this morning.

Notably, constructed in 1968 the market complex had been declared unsafe by the administration around 2 years ago. Later a notice had been issued to the shop owners under it vacate the place to allow the eviction to which they had replied in positive.

It is learnt that the administration has planned to set up a multi-level modern market complex in place of the bulldozed market. The shops will be available on rent in the new market after the completion of the construction which will take around 2 years, as per estimation.

The district administration had made ample arrangement of police force during the eviction drive today.
