Kendrapara: Tension ran high in Balana village under Mahakalapada police limits in the district this morning after a youth from the area committed suicide after escaping from the police custody last night.
The deceased has been identified as Abinash Paitala alias Musha.
As per the report, the accused has been arrested by Mahakalapada Police last night for stealing a mobile phone of a villager. While cops quizzed him till late in the night and later put in the lockup, he managed to escape from their subsequently.
The deceased’s body was later found hanging from the staircase railing of one Haladhar Mallick’s house in the village.
Angry villagers staged a road blockade at Balana Chhak on Jambu-Marshaghai Road in protest to the incident and held police responsible for the youth’s suicide. They claimed police excess compelled the accused to take the extreme step.
