Nayagarh: In an instance of mob justice in the state, a father-sons trio were mercilessly beaten up by locals over suspicion of murdering a man in Duda village under Banigochha police limits in the district on Friday.
The victims have been identified as Duryodhan Nayak, his sons Brahamadi Nayak and Purnadi Nayak.
As per the report, one Jadhav Nayak of Duda village was on his way to Boudh on a bike with another person from the village on the pillion seat on May 1 when the murder took place. A group of miscreants attacked the duo near Charichhak area with sharp weapons over suspected past enmity in which Jadhav sustained critical injury. Jadhav was rushed to Adhenigarh CHC and later shifted to Burla Medical where he succumbed under treatment on May 2.
Charichhak Police in Boudh detained Duryodhan and his two sons in connection with the murder a few days later after Jadhav’s family lodged a case against them. However, it released the trio a few days later which irked the villagers.
With an intention to teach the accused trio a lesson, the locals rounded up them on Monday and tied to electric poles in the village before thrashing severely. During his assault, Brahamadi confessed to the crime and said he had killed Jadhav.
Banigochha Police reached the spot and rescued the trio from the clutches of the villagers. It also took the murder accused into its custody later.
