Miscrents loot bank by tying up guard in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Putting a question mark on the safety and security of banks in the state yet again, unidentified miscreants looted the Pratappur branch of Odisha Gramya Bank under Badasahi Police limits by threatening and tying up a security guard.

As per the report, a group of three robbers stormed the bank premise last night and tried to enter the building from the back door. However, while trying to break the grill they came across a security guard deployed on duty at the panchayat office located at the backside of the bank and threatened him at gun point. Later they committed the crime by tying the guard’s hands and legs and putting sellotape on mouth.

The incident came to fore after the guard raised an alarm by anyhow removing the tape from his mouth.

Locals blocked the Badasahi-Baripada road this morning protesting the incident. They alleged due to undeclared power cut, such kind of loot is on a rise in the area and the administration is apathetic towards it.

Police along with scientific team has reached the spot and started investigation.

The amount of cash looted from the bank is yet to be ascertained by the authorities.
