Miscreants target PCR van with bomb, SI among 3 injured

Cuttack: Tension ran high in Kurunti village under Cuttack Sadar police limits here last night after a group of miscreants targeted a PCR van with bomb and injured at least three policemen including a Sub Inspector (SI) who had reached the village to investigate into a bomb hurling case.

The injured SI has been identified as Nrusingha Charan Swain.

Swain rushed to the village along with a police team late in the night yesterday, after getting a call from a local Alokendu Das who claimed that a group of miscreants were hurling bombs at his home after he refused to pay them extortion money of Rs 50,000 for construction of a house in the locality. Minutes after the police team reached the spot the miscreants targeted the PCR van which was carrying them with a crude bomb and fled away.

The injured cops were immediately rushed to the SCB Medical in Cuttack following the attack.

One bike bearing the registration number OD 02 Y 8445 which was left near Alokendu’s house by the attackers was later seized by police.

Alokendu has lodged a case against Juga and Babuna of Musalman Sahi under Brahmanjharilo village in the incident, on which an investigation is underway.
