Miscreants snatch woman’s handbag, victim sustains head injury in Ganjam

Berhampur: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched handbag from a woman and left her severe injured on Anangpur road under Digapahandi police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Sumitra Gouda wife of Santosh Gouda, a resident of Sebaka Tikarpada village in Digapahandi are of the district. She suffered head injury and was rushed to a hospital in Digapahandi. Later, she was shifted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur for better treatment.

According to reports, Sumitra and her husband were heading to Berhampur in a two-wheeler carrying cash of Rs 35,000 in her handbag. They had brought Rs 15,000 from home and withdrawn cash of Rs 20,000 from Andhra bank in Digapahandi.

The miscreants, who came in a black Pulsar, snatched Sumitra’s hand bag and sped away. Following which, the victim fell on the road and suffered head injury.

In the meantime, Digapahandi BDO was passing the road in his official vehicle. He immediately got down from the vehicle and rescued the injured with the help of locals. He also sent the injured to the hospital in his official four-wheeler.

On being informed, police reached the spot and began an investigation into the matter.
