Miscreants loot temple in Ganjam, take away Jewellery worth lakhs

Berhampur: In yet another temple theft case, unidentified miscreants have looted gold and silver ornaments of the deities worth lakhs along with donation money from Dakshina Dandakali temple located in Ambapua under Gopalpur police limits in Ganjam district last night.

The loot came to light after some priests who reached the temple for morning puja rituals in the morning and found the locks of its gate broken. Smelling foul in the incident they called up police to inform.

During police investigation with the help of the scientific team and sniffer dog, it came to notice that the burglars have taken away gold and silver jewellery of the deity worth Rs 5 lakh. Similarly, they have taken away one of the two ‘hundi’ (donation box) of the temple containing an unspecified amount of money with them.

While the investigation is underway, locals have blamed the lackadaisical attitude of the local police for the loot and informed that a few months back a similar incident had taken place at the temple but it didn’t take any lesson from that.
