Angul: Adding to the unending episode of bank loot in the district, some unidentified burglars robbed cash and valuable jewellery from State Bank of India, Bantala Branch last night.
A group of looters managed to enter the branch after removing the grills of its window and later broke open the strong room located inside. After looting valuable jewellery from the strong room they also took away cash kept at the counter drawer. However, they left in a hurry as the bank’s security siren started blowing later.
“We heard the sound of bank’s security siren between 11 AM and 11.30 AM and came out of home with curiosity, but till then the looters had decamped from the spot,” said a local who resides near the branch.
Bank staff reached the branch this morning and took stock of the situation. However, they have not yet assessed the exact amount of cash and jewellery looted by the robbers.
Police reached the branch and started investigation into the incident this morning.
