Kalahandi: In a broad daylight heist, unidentified miscreants killed a youth and left his father critically injured after looting Rs 6 lakh from their possession in Borguda village under Junagarh in Kalahandi district last evening.
The deceased youth has been identified as Balabhadra Nayak.
As per the report, Balabhadra and his father Kheti Nayak was returning home after withdrawing Rs 6 lakh from a bank in Bhawanipatna when the loot took place. Three bike-borne miscreants waylaid the bike of the father-son duo near a forested area on the outskirts of Borguda and snatched away the cash bag.
As Balabhadra showed some resistance the looters thrashed the duo with iron rods and later fired bullets at them which missed the target.
Some locals rescued the victim duo in critical condition after the looters fled from the spot and admitted them to Junagarh Community Health Centre (CHC). They were later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla due to deteriorating condition but Balabhadra succumbed there under treatment.
Junagarh Police reached the spot and seized a gun used in the crime and lodged a case in connection with the loot.
