Miscreants Loot Rs 35 lakh From Bank Employees On Bhubaneswar Outskirts

Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted cash of Rs 35 lakh from a hired vehicle of Indian Bank near Nakhara on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar this evening. The incident took place when the cash was being transported to the currency chest of the bank at Saheed Nagar from Niali branch.

Clerk of the bank Kanhu Charan Behera alleged that they were heading towards Saheed Nagar when they were waylaid by a group of masked people in an Innova vehicle. “Later they intercepted us in an isolated place and threatened us with sharp-edged weapons. They also assaulted me and decamped with the cash box kept in the dickey of the car,” alleged Behera.

Police later rushed to the spot and started an investigation. Police are also interrogating the driver of the vehicle.

“We are also investigating the possible involvement of bank insiders in the incident. It was strange that no gunman was accompanying the bank employees during the transportation of huge volume of cash. Besides the bank has also hired a private taxi which is hard to believe,” said a police official.
