Puri: Throwing an open challenge to police, a group of unidentified miscreants looted Rs 50,000 along with valuable gold ornaments at gun point from a prawn hatchery in Naba village under Krushnaprasad police limits in the district last night.
The loot took place at Chandi Biswal prawn hatchery late in the night while staffs were busy in work. A group of four miscreants arrived at the hatchery boarding a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle and barged into it. After resorting to blank firing and putting at least nine staff at gun point, the miscreants snatched away their mobile phones, gold necklaces and other valuable jewelleries.
The miscreants also broke the locker of the stock room of the hatchery and took away Rs 50,000 in cash kept inside it before fleeing from the spot.
Krushnaprasad Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
