Miscreants loot cash from UP oil tanker driver, injure him critically

Balasore: Throwing an open challenge to police, unidentified miscreants snatched away cash worth Rs 15,000 from a gas tanker driver and injured him grievously in broad daylight in Nidhi Panda area in Balasore today.

The victim has been identified as Sheikh Riyaz, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

As per the report, Riyaz who works as a gas tanker driver was on his way Paradip via Balasore to carry a fuel consignment to Uttar Pradesh last night. He was intercepted in front of Nidhi Panda Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) by a group of looters who after hacking him with sharp weapons snatched away Rs 15,000 and fled from the spot.

Riyaz, who sustained critical head injury and bled profusely at the spot, was immediately rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by a fellow driver with the help of a dhaba (roadside eatery) owner.

Police have reached the spot and launched a manhunt to catch the miscreants involved in the loot.
