Bargarh: Unidentified miscreants hacked a woman to death and injured her husband and two sons critically after attacking a family in Bairakapali village under Bijepur police limits late last night.
The deceased woman has been identified as Jayashree Meher (46). The injured are Jayashree’s husband Khirod Meher (50), Devendra Meher (18) and Balaram Meher (25).
As per the report, a group of four masked miscreants arrived at Khirod’s family late last night while his family was about to go to bed after dinner. They first hacked Jayashree with a ‘Bhujali’ (sharp weapon) killing her on the spot. Later, the assailants started hacking Khirod and his two sons inflicting critical injury on them before fleeing from the spot.
While escaping, the assailants left behind a TVS Victor bike used by them.
Injured were rushed to Bijepur Hospital immediately by some neighbours after the incident, who also called up police.
Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the attack, the reason of which is yet to be ascertained.
